ENS Registration Cost Estimator

Estimate registration and renewal costs for an ENS (.eth) name based on character length, duration, and current ETH price.

How It Works

The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) charges an annual rent for .eth names. The cost depends on the character length of the name:

ENS pricing is denominated in USD but paid in ETH at the current exchange rate. The protocol uses a Chainlink ETH/USD price oracle on-chain to convert the USD-denominated rent into the ETH amount required at registration time.

Registration Process

1. Request: Commit a hash of the desired name to prevent front-running.
2. Wait: A minimum 1-minute waiting period after the commit.
3. Register: Complete the registration by paying the rent plus gas fees.

Renewal

Renewals use the same annual pricing structure. Anyone can renew any name — you do not have to be the owner. After expiry, names enter a 90-day grace period before becoming available for re-registration through a temporary premium auction.

Temporary Premium

When an expired name becomes available again, ENS applies a temporary premium that starts at $100M and decays exponentially to $0 over 21 days. This estimator does not include the temporary premium; it only calculates the standard registration rent.
